Make a STATEment with this Project

I've seen these string art maps on Pinterest, so decided to make one for a good friend for Christmas this year.

I started out on eBay buying a map of Oregon.

I then copied it (so I could use the original more than once).  I had to copy it in two pieces, then tape it together.  I cut the copy right up to the edge of the state line.  My husband made a board and stained it dark.

I then nailed these #18 3/4" Escutcheon Pins right along the edge of the paper.  I hit each nail about 5 times so it stayed, but still stuck out enough to hold the string.

I used a popsicle stick to keep the distance of each nail equal.

Once I got done with the outline, I found a heart online and taped it to the middle of the board.  I nailed around it. I didn't use a stick in between these nails, as I needed to get them close together.  I just eyed it.

I started in the upper left corner.  I then wrapped string from the edge of the state to the heart.  I did one wrap along the state lines and about 4-5 on each heart nail.

When I got back to the upper left corner, I tied the string in a couple of knots then applied some Krazy glue to the knots.  I cut the string as close as I could and called the job done!

I love the way it turned out and my friend who received it loves it too!

A GREAT Anniversary Getaway and a GREAT STUFF Giveaway!

We recently went to the Dominican Republic to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.  What a great trip!  The people of the Dominican Republic are so friendly and hard working.  They were so thankful to have tourists come to their beautiful country.  We stayed at an adults only, all inclusive resort in Punta Cana.  From the moment we arrived at the resort, we LOVED IT!  That all-inclusive deal is sweet!  ALL the food and drinks are included.  Yes, we needed our stretchy pants by the time we left!

The ocean was warm and turquoise.  There was a slight breeze that felt great.

We had a swim out room.  We sat out there each day. What a neat way to cool off!

A pool with a swim up bar.  A very popular place!

A delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants.
Of course, we can't wait to go back again!

Now for the Giveaway!
The folks at GREAT STUFF™ have generously offered a Gift Pack of their products to one lucky winner.

We love GREAT STUFF™!  Since we live in a much cooler place than the Dominican Republic, we need to make sure all of the cold air stays out in the winter and in in the summer.

This products shuts leaks out of Windows & Doors
Proper air sealing can lower your energy bill.  The average U.S. home has gaps and cracks that run ½ mile long from end to end. GREAT STUFF™ Window & Door Insulating Foam Sealant makes light work of spraying insulating foam in the gaps around doors and windows. It expands quickly to block airflow and add warmth your whole family can feel.

This stuff works so well.  Here it's used at my friend's new house that he's building to cover the spaces between the ducts and plumbing gaps.   Be sure to always wear gloves when using these products.

The gaps around water and waste pipes leading to exterior walls can let in a lot of air. GREAT STUFF™ Big Gap Filler expands to take the shape of cracks and voids 1" or larger, forming an airtight, water-resistant seal that prevents drafts and keeps critters out.

So please leave a comment for the chance to win a Gift Pack of GREAT STUFF™ products!  I'll be picking a winner via Random Number Generator on Saturday, December 13, 2014.

Thanks for your visit!

Toledo Scale Redo! Yes, Another One!

I would say that my husband is becoming quite good at scale restorations.  He would say that our house may just cave in one day from the weight of all of the scales.  :)

We found this little Toledo scale at an antique shop a couple months ago.  It was missing the glass, had a metal tray and was pretty beaten up.

He methodically takes each scale apart and cleans up every single part.

He got creative in replacing the metal tray.  He found sheets on Corian on eBay.  He cut a piece into a circle, glued it on and now it's a clean, pretty tray.

I love the sparkly blue color with the brass accents.

Yes, another successful job!

Thank you for your visit!

Pam

This is FANtastic

We recently installed a new ventilation fan in our main floor bathroom.  The previous fan sounded like an airplane landing!  It was also on a switch, so either it was left on for much longer than it needed to be, or was turned off too soon.

We looked at Westside Wholesale and loved the selection!  We are lovers of the big box stores, but the selection here was light years better!  There are 150+ choices for bath fans alone on their website.

We looked at several models, then decided on the Panasonic bathroom fan.  This baby is quiet!  It has an auto-on, auto-off sensor that we set for 10 minutes.  It will stay on if it senses humidity or motion.  If not, it'll only stay on for 10 minutes.

This is the old fan.  It was a little smaller than the new.

And the new fan.

It took about 90 minutes from start to finish to install.

There were a couple of pieces of metal that needed to be bent to get it in as a 'remodel' rather than a 'new' install, but overall, it wasn't too difficult.  (of course I was the one taking pictures, not climbing up in the attic--haha)

We have had it in for about 3 weeks now and are so happy with everything about it.  It's quiet, it moves air very well, and it clears out the humidity from a shower very quickly.

 Thanks for your visit!
